Using the powerful ESP8266 IC, the ESP-13 Wifi Shield adds much more than just plain wifi to your Arduino. It has an 80MHz processor and can also act as an access point or web server. An excellent way to get into the Internet of Things.
Features:
• Integrated TCP/IP stack
• Simple AT command interface with Arduino main board
• Can be programmed directly with Arduino IDE (separate programmer needed)
• Web configuration interface
• Switches on shield to disconnect from Arduino

Avoid at all costs
Do not buy. There are much simpler and better ESP-based alternatives for cheaper prices. Documentation downloaded from Jaycar is irrelevant. My board did not come with the "AT"-command firmware, it came with "Doit" firmware. I know this because my board is broadcasting a WiFi network called "DoitWiFi_config" out of the box. There is something wrong with this version of the firmware, too. Even following the config documentation for the Doit firmware (connect to "DoitWiFi_config" wifi network, browse to 192.168.4.1, etc...) did not work. There is no web server listening at that address. I can ping it, but can't browse to it. A complete scan of all ports reveals that NO TCP ports are open.
